Community - Eucharist Mass

Good morning, blessings and happy Saturday my dear family of Santa Cruz. Tomorrow Sunday we will have our Community - Eucharist Mass at 10:00 am in English and ASL and in Spanish at 1:00 pm. We will also have the visit of our Parish Board, particularly the two Guardians, who will explain, along with me, the rationale for the decision taken to move the elections of the Annual Assembly, from January to March 2020. And we will also be celebrating the traditional liturgy of the Day of Kings / Queens.

During the sermon we will be reflecting on the biblical narrative of Matthew 2: 1-12. The title of the reflection will be: Love always conquers evil. In it I will be arguing that like our sisters and brothers fleeing from their countries in Latin America, María and José and their little boy fled from Bethlehem and also became refugees. His escape from the power of a dictator has become too familiar in all the death camps of the world. Therefore, making sense of Bethlehem means making sense of the fallen world in which we live, which is of vital importance.

And, on the other hand, I will make it clear that God showed his true love for creation, not taking away the choice that made love possible.

However, even when Herod could exercise his free will to do the unthinkable and end too many innocent lives to secure his power, Herod did not yet have the power to stop God's love and the plan of salvation for all people. Yes, the world has fallen. Yes, those people who wish to do evil have the free will to act according to their wrong desires, but the free will of those who commit evil has no power to stop the love of God and our love. Evil exists only for a tragic and painful moment compared to the eternal love of God.
If we are clear that God is love, then we can
recognize that love will overcome, because love always conquers evil.

See you tomorrow at Mass.

Blessings

Fr. Luis+
