Asking for something for ourselves does not come readily to many of us

Reading: Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread;  a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ Luke 11:5-6.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings my dear family.

Today I pray that Jesus will give me power and wisdom to build an anti-capitalist society full of justice

Reading: Give us each day our daily bread. Luke 11:3.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear family.

In this reading from Luke’s Gospel (Luke 11:1-4), Jesus presents a scenario to his disciples.  Suppose you have an unexpected guest who shows up in the middle of the night.  Now this friend has traveled quite a distance and is hungry.  However, you don’t have any food in the house.  It’s late and all the markets are closed.  Thus, the only option available was to go next-door and ask a neighbor for some food.

There is no greater hospitality than listening to your guest

Reading: But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Luke 10:40.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings my dear family.

The Gospel story (Luke 10:38-42) for today takes a sharp turn when Martha, distracted by her many tasks, comes to Jesus and asks, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.”

Today may we open our eyes, mind, and heart to someone who is in need

Reading: In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. Luke 10:30.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings my dear family.

There is a big difference between being childish and being childlike.

Reading: Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.” Luke 9:48.

Good morning happy Monday and many blessings my dear family.

What causes feelings of revenge to enter into me?

Reading: When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” Luke 9:54.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings my dear family.

God was knocking on the doors of Herod's heart.

Reading: But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him. Luke 9:9.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings my dear family.

Jesus weds power and authority with compassionate love and humble service

.

Reading:  He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Luke 9: 3.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear family.

Luke in this Gospel (Luke 9:1-6) brings the 12 into the forefront of the narrative; they are presented as sharing in the Mission of Christ; they are no longer merely disciples but are given the task of doing what Jesus does; to exercise authority over unclean spirits, curing diseases and proclaiming the kingdom of God.

Jesus did not walk with holy people, but with people like you and me.

Reading: As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings my dear family.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 9:9-13) we celebrate the feast of St. Matthew. The Gospel reading for today is “the call of Matthew.” Jesus saw Matthew as he walked by Matthew’s custom post. Jesus simply said to Matthew, “follow me,” and immediately, Matthew got up and followed Jesus.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
