Do I have a joy founded on my faith and the awareness of God’s immense personal love?

Do I have a joy founded on my faith and the awareness of God’s immense personal love?

Reading: Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. John 16:20.

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

To be a follower of Jesus is to have feelings that seem to be at odds with the world

Reading: Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. John 16:20.

Good morning, happy Thursdays, and many blessings.

This is not a promise to each of us personally, but to the Church as a whole

Reading: When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

It can become easy to take Jesus’ presence to us for granted

Reading: But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7

Good, morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

We are to preach by our lives, only occasionally in words

Reading: And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:27.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

This is the peace that Jesus offers, not a life free from challenge or suffering

Reading: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

Jesus wants to be my friend

Reading: You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:14.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

In today’s Gospel (John 15:12-17) My focus now is not on my faith, on what I think or believe. Jesus invites me to accept what he believes about me, how he sees me to be. I am sent to bear fruit. I am trusted. I am loved.

Sheep will not follow a stranger, but will flee from someone whose voice they do not recognize

Reading: The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. John 10:3.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

Jesus always receives us

Reading: Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

In today’s Gospel (John 6:35-40) Jesus makes clear that the bread he is giving is his word, which, if accepted, will satisfy. Moving from the metaphorical, Jesus spells out what it means to believe in him and what are the consequences of such belief.

What preconditions are you setting before meeting Jesus?

Reading: So, they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? John 6:30.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

In today’s Gospel (John 6:30-35) the crowd, who have witnessed the multiplication of loaves and fishes, ask for a sign as if the multiplication was nothing much. Jesus puts his Father above Moses and by implication his word (teaching) above that of Moses. The crowd interprets the whole discussion in material terms and so misinterprets what he says.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
