Al llegar a Marcos 9, encontramos a Jesús expresando otra forma de pensar paradójica. Dice que el camino a la grandeza es el camino al servicio. Y si queremos ser grandes, debemos ser l@s mejores servidor@s. Y, por supuesto, esto no es simplemente algo que dice Jesús, así es como Él vivió. La vida y la muerte de Jesús son las últimas demostraciones de la grandeza de la humildad.

Una vez más, vemos a Jesús cambiando nuestra forma de pensar mientras redefine el camino hacia la grandeza. El camino a la grandeza es el camino al servicio. Para ser grandes debemos ser l@s mejores servidor@s que podamos ser.

Si bien un llamado al servicio es un llamado a la humildad, no es un llamado a la pasividad o al retiro. Jesús es nuestro ejemplo (Filipenses 2): Ser un siervo o sierva significa ir hacia las personas necesitadas y buscar a las olvidadas. Y Jesús no sirvió por miedo o culpa, sino por alegría, no por cobardía o coerción, sino por coraje y deseo. Dar la bienvenida a l@s humildes: cuando Jesús habla de "recibir", utiliza un término de hospitalidad. Es la idea de dar la bienvenida a alguien, mostrar amabilidad y cariño por otra persona. Mientras Jesús sostiene a este niño (una persona que a menudo se pasa por alto u olvidada), Él dice, si lo@ recibes, me recibes a mí y al que me envió. La forma en que mostramos nuestro amor por Jesús y la forma en que lo honramos es amando, sirviendo y honrando a l@s humildes y necesitad@s que nos rodean.

Y recuerde, la iglesia no es un museo para gente santa. La Iglesia es un hospital para sanar a personas pecadoras como nosotros. Ven a curarte a ti mismo.

As we come to Mark 9 we find Jesus expressing yet another paradoxical way of thinking. He says that the way to greatness is the way of service. And if we want to be great, we need to be the greatest servants. And of course, this isn’t simply something Jesus says, this is the way He lived. The life and the death of Jesus are the ultimate demonstrations of the greatness of humility.

Once again, we see Jesus turning our way of thinking on its’ head as He redefines the path to greatness. The way to greatness is the way of service. To be great we must be the greatest servants we can be.

While a call to servanthood is a call to humility, it’s not a call to passivity or to retreat. Jesus is our example (Philippians 2): To be a servant means to go toward those in need and to seek out the forgotten. And Jesus didn’t serve out of fear or guilt but out of joy, not out of cowardice or coercion but of courage and desire. Welcoming the lowly – When Jesus speaks of ‘receiving’ He’s using a term of hospitality. It’s the idea of welcoming someone in, showing kindness and care for another person. As Jesus holds this child (a person who was often overlooked or forgotten) He says, if you receive them, you receive me and the One who sent me. The way we show our love for Jesus and the way we honor Him is by loving, serving and honoring the lowly and the needy around us.

And remember, the church is not a museum for holy people. The Church is a hospital to heal sinful people like us. Come to heal
 yourself.
