Life involves searching if we want to find something or someone.

Reading: he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Luke 7:19

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear family.

The people of Jesus’s time first became aware of him as a teacher and a healer through the visible evidence of his impact upon the poor and the sick. As they told what they had seen and experienced, his reputation spread across the land. The good news he brought continues to live on today in the healing narratives in the Gospels and in the health care ministries serving in his name. In this passage from Luke 7:19-23, Jesus responds to the disciples who have been sent by John the Baptist to question him.

Consider the response Jesus made to John’s disciples: “Go and tell what you have seen and heard.” The ministry of pastoral care extends the healing ministry of Jesus to those who are in need today.

Do I find that I need to ask the exact same question about Jesus; "Are you 'the one'?" John the Baptist didn't fear the question but sent disciples to ask Jesus straight. Can I ask Jesus straight to his face; "Are you the one?" What answer do I expect? What answer does he give me?

Are you the one, Lord? I am staking my life on it. I am not waiting for anyone else. Politicians, gurus, and celebrities come and go, with promises and new solutions, but I am sticking with you. You show me how to make this world better, by tackling suffering and sickness, and reaching out to the unfortunate. In my doubts and difficulties, I fill my eyes with the sight of you, your person and your works.

He was fulfilling the prophecies by proclaiming the Good News and healing the sick. He was authentic. I also look for in life, so who do I look for? Jesus or myself? I am called to recognize and bear witness to the mission of Jesus in proclaiming the Good News and bringing healing. Lord, help me to see if You are present in my life and in the world around me, so that I can be a more authentic prophet.

Life involves searching if we want to find something or someone. For the benefit of his disciples, John the Baptist wanted to know if Jesus was the promised one. Jesus' response to the two disciples was to talk about his mission and what he was doing. It was not a simple 'yes' as such.

Blessings,

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
