Where is your wilderness?

Good morning, happy Saturday and many blessings.

I remind you that tomorrow Sunday we will have Community Masses at 10:00 am in English & ASL and in Spanish at 12:00 pm.

During the sermon I will place greater emphasis on the Gospel of Matthew 4: 1-11, what is known as the temptation of Jesus. I believe that’s the preparation that Jesus undertook in his time in the wilderness and that’s the task given to us now. The wilderness tests of the temptation account are not a one-time suffering to get through, but they are tests of preparation for the choices Jesus makes in his earthly ministry.

That is why I will be challenging you with these questions: Where is your wilderness? What do you need to stare at and make peace with and grow into while you are there? What strength of spirit and heart and body do you need to develop in this Lenten season? What do you need to pay attention to? So many Christians I meet today, whether in person, on social networks, or through emails, tell me that they are living in a spiritual wilderness. They feel alone, spiritually isolated, and they don’t have too many Christian friends that they are experiencing a rich and full fellowship in Christ with. Some of them attend a church on Sunday morning, yet still, they are living in the desert and they know it.

Some have given up on the traditional form of church altogether. And they are in serious pursuit of an expression of church that provides authentic community centered on Jesus Christ. But they cannot find such an expression in their city.

All these people love Jesus and they love the Body of Christ, but they feel quite alone. And spiritually, they are dry and empty. In short, they are experiencing the wilderness.

Blessings

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
