What is the healing we want to ask for or Jesus?

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

 

In today’s Gospel (John 4:43-54) Jesus left Samaria and traveled home to Galilee. If you recall, Jesus himself said: “No prophet is accepted in his home town.” Yet when Jesus arrived in Cana of Galilee, he was welcomed with open arms.  Had the hearts of the Galileans truly changed? If so, was it because they personally had experienced the power of Jesus’ teaching and his ability to heal or were they simply curious and wanted to hear this man for themselves?

 

Understand what it means to put love as my top priority

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

 

Our story (Mark 12:28-34) falls within a series of conversations between Jesus and various sectarian leaders residing in Jerusalem, which began in Mark 11:27. This was the final discussion initiated by one of these leaders, since “no one dared to ask him any question” after this encounter (cf. Mark 12:34).

 

 Jesus mission is to overcome evil in all its forms.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

 

In our Gospel today’s (Luke 11:14-23) Jesus tells His followers “whoever is not with Me is against Me, and whoever does not gather with Me scatters” (23)

 

The choice for most, if not all, of us is clear; we know John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” and we will say that we desire to gather with Jesus because that is much better than the alternative.

 

Jesus wants people to understand that the commandments are there to help us to be loving, respectful, just, merciful people, and to care for God's creation

Good morning, happy Wednesday and many blessings.

 

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 5:17-19) once again we see that Jesus frequently angered the Pharisees by breaking the law. He pulled ears of corn on the Sabbath. He healed on the Sabbath. He touched the unclean. It seems clear that when he speaks of the Law, he is speaking of it in a transformed sense as defined in his teaching that only two commandments are necessary – to love God and to love one’s neighbor as oneself.

 

A forgiving person is a person who shows compassionate character

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

 

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 18:21-35) we learn that God’s forgiveness and human forgiveness are integrally related.

 

“How often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered Peter, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.”

 

What would that experience of rejection have been like for Jesus?

Today’s Gospel (Luke 4:24-30) remind us that when Jesus first proclaimed the good news of God's kingdom to his own townspeople at Nazareth, he was met with angry incredulity. Their very familiarity with him blinded them to his colossal mission. Many of us have been familiar with the words of Jesus from childhood. We have heard the narratives, the sermons, the parables so often that it is difficult to imagine it the way Paul describes it, ‘The word of God is living and active’.

 

Jesus is not willing to give up on you or me

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

 

The Gospel today is found in Luke 16:19-31.  Commonly known as “The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus”, this parable shows us the foolishness of seeking earthly comfort (which is temporary) to the neglect of heavenly comfort (which is forever).  

 

Go beyond yourself for others

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

 

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 20:17-28) Jesus’ announcement says that his fate in Jerusalem will be no tragic accident of history but the outworking of God’s saving purposes for humanity. This is the preeminent work of Jesus—not his powerful deeds and words, nor his ministry among the Jews of Galilee and Judea, but his death on the cross.

 

Forgiving someone who has hurt us deeply is a great challenge

Today’s message in Luke 6:36-38 from Jesus is not an easy message to receive. Jesus is telling his disciples (and us) to be merciful. Jesus instructs us to be merciful as His Father is merciful. What a challenge this may be. The call to be merciful is not an easy or desired call!

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
