The Red Corner of Fr. Luis

You have to have courage and lift your head

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

In today’s Gospel (Luke 21:20-28) we have the continuation of the Apocalyptic Discourse which gives two signs, the 7th and the 8th, which should take place before the end of time or better before the coming of the end of this world in order to give place to the new world, to the “new Heavens and the New Earth” (Is 65, 17). The seventh sign is the destruction of Jerusalem and the eighth is the upsetting of the old creation.

Has hope increased or decreased in you?

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

In today’s Gospel (Luke

21:12-19

), which is a continuation of the discourse begun yesterday, Jesus lists different signs to help the communities place themselves in these events and not lose faith in God, as well as the courage to persevere against the attacks of the Roman Empire.

What is there in the church today that needs cleaning?

Good morning, happy Friday, an many blessings.

Luke, having described Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, now presents carrying out His mission in the temple.  (Luke 19:45-48). The gesture of Jesus has socio-political value and prophetic significance, in other words, theological.  The great purpose of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem is to enter the temple.

Let's not make Jesus cry

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

The Gospel today (Luke 19:41-44) tells us that Jesus, when he saw Jerusalem as he approached, began to shed tears and to pronounce a very dark future for the city of His people.

Obstacles show us the way

Good morning, happy Wednesdays, an many blessings.

The Gospel today (Luke 19:11-28) presents the parable of the talents in which Jesus speaks of the gifts that people receive from God. All people have some qualities; they receive some gifts or know something which they can teach to others. Nobody is only a pupil. Nobody is only a professor. We all learn from one another.

The kingdom is in your midst

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

Today’s Gospel (Luke 17:20-25) gives us the discussion between Jesus and the Pharisees on the coming of the Kingdom. The Gospel today and that of the following days deal with the coming of the end of time.

The disciples eagerly await the coming of the Kingdom. For us, the death and resurrection of Jesus mean that the kingdom is already within our reach: ‘Behold, the kingdom of God is among you’. It is already present through the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus.

God has called you to serve

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

The Gospel today (Luke 17:7-10) narrates the parable, which is found only in Luke’s Gospel, and has no parallel in the other Gospels. The parable wants to teach that our life has to be characterized by an attitude of service. It begins with three questions and at the end Jesus himself gives the answer.

We are the temple of God in the world

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

Act wisely and cunningly

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

Today the Gospel (Luke 16:1-8) presents a parable that concerns the administration of goods which is found only in Luke’s Gospel. It is called the parable of the dishonest steward. It is a disconcerting parable.

Expensive discipleship

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

If you don't find today's Gospel (Luke 14:25-33) hard to swallow, you are not really listening. Jesus is asking for total commitment of every Christian, as a disciple

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
