Service makes us more humble

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

The Gospel today (Matthew 18: 1-5. 10. 12-14) gives the first part of the discourse on the community (Mt 18:1-14) which has as key word “the little ones”. The little ones are not only the children, but also the poor, those who are not important in society and in the community, and also the children. Jesus asks that these “little ones” should always be the center of the concern of the communities because “The Father in Heaven does not will that one of these little ones should be lost” (Mt ‪18:14‬).

The practice of peace with justice

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

The five verses of today’s Gospel speak about two very different themes between them. (a) The second announcement of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus (Mt ‪17:22-23‬); and (b) they report Jesus’ conversation with Peter about paying the taxes and the dues to the temple (Mt 17:24-27). Is a story about dead and taxes.

There is satisfying life in Jesus

Go up in prayer, but you must go down to practice it

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

Mystery marks this transfiguration scene (Matthew 17:1-9). Jesus is transfigured. Moses and Elijah appear and then strangely disappear. Peter is perplexed. James and John are anonymous. The disciples are overcome with admiration. Jesus tells them to say nothing about what has happened! Mystery and divine presence are pervasive.

If you want to, you mustbget out of the boat

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

After reading today's Gospel, Matthew 14: 22-36, I began to meditate on the possibility that we might be strengthened through the storms that we encounter in our daily live. There are storms of correction (when God disciplines us; e.g. Jonah) and there are storms of perfection (when God helps us grow; e.g. Peter).

What happens when your faith and your confidence doubt?

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessing.

Open your heart so that miracles are possible

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

The Gospel today (Matthew 13:54-58) tells us of Jesus’ visit to Nazareth, His native community. Passing through Nazareth was painful for Jesus. What was His community at the beginning, now is no longer. Something has changed.

It seems there was a moment when the light broke through, when the people realized the power of Jesus’ wisdom and actions. Then the clouds came over and they thought, ‘If he were so special we would not have missed it.’

The Church includes both good and bad people.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 13:47-53), presents the last parable of the discourse on the parables, the story of the net thrown into the sea. This parable is found only in the Gospel of Matthew without any parallel in the other three Gospels.

To find, there must be some effort to "look"

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

The Gospel today (Matthew 13:44-46) presents two brief parables from the discourse on the parables. They are similar to each other, but with significant differences that clarify aspects of the mystery of the Kingdom which the parables are revealing.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
