Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

 

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 11:20-24) is a difficult one to read. Jesus’ instruction to his disciples is pretty disturbing Jesus denounces the cities of Chorazin and Bethsaida for refusing to believe in him despite the wonders they had seen him work.

 

A call with commitment.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings.

 

Today’s readings, Matthew 10:34-11:1, contains some of what are called the hard sayings of Jesus: choosing to follow him means some hard choices in life, some involving our closest relationships. In the depth of my heart I know this is true, and I look back at when I paid a high price to follow Jesus and his values, and at other times when I was not brave enough to do so. I pray for a generous and strong spirit.

 

Commitment to Jesus Christ is long-term

According to our Gospel for today, Matthew ‪10:16-23‬, there is going to be a clear interval of time ‘before the Son of Man comes’ back. But the followers of Jesus will not be entirely on their own. They will be able to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit – sent by God – no matter what troubles come.  

 

Confronting the worl with the power of the Holy Spirit

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

 

The Gospel today, Matthew 10:7-15, presents the second part of the sending out of the disciples. Yesterday we saw that Jesus insists on directing them first toward the lost sheep of Israel. Today, we see concrete instructions to carry out the mission. 

 

The harvest is great!

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

 

In today’s Gospel, Matthew 10:1-7, Jesus establishes a commission to establish a discipleship to serve, instead of being served. Having taught the disciples to pray that God would send forth laborers into the harvest, Jesus commissioned them to serve in the harvest, essential using them as an answer to their prayers.

 

Compassion is part of our discipleship

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings.

 

The verses we heard in today’s Gospel, Matthew 9:32-38, describe Jesus going about his ministries. He’s travelling from town to town. Everywhere he goes, he teaches in the synagogues. And healing is a big part of his ministry, too. Matthew says that Jesus healed every disease and infirmity.

 

The touch of faith

In the Gospel of Matthew (9:18-26) we are presented with the story of a woman who had a discharge of blood, she was ceremonially unclean. A person touching her, or her blood-stained garments required to wash and was also unclean until the evening.
 

Peace amid doubt

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

 

Somehow when I read today's Gospel, John 20: 24-29, I tell myself that as Christians we have our doubts and we have Jesus. We doubt our doubts and we believe Him. In other words, this is a story of the doubting disciples.

 

There is power in Jesus

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings.

 

Today’s Gospel, Matthew 9:1-8, reminds us about ways to cultivate compassion. The greatest benefit of compassion is hope both for others and for ourselves.

 

And this, of course, is the central theme or message of the passage, that Jesus has compassion and authority to forgive sin. How do we know that? Part of the answer, and the answer given here, is that He has the power to heal.

 

There is no place for the devil in my life

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear Holyrood family.

 

In today's Gospel, Matthew 8: 28-34, it is shown that Satan, or the Devil, is afraid of Jesus. Is a story of how we can overcome evil. But we also learn that first we must start with ourselves, and any demonic influence, then we can be pure and ready to help another break free.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
