Are we betraying Jesus?

*Are we betraying Jesus?  *

Good morning, happy Holy Wednesday and blessings. Remember that today our church celebrates its 127th anniversary.

The betrayal

Good morning, happy Holy Tuesday and blessings.

The Gospel for today (Saint John (13,21-33.36-38) tells us about the experience of the Last Supper where Jesus lives three incredible encounters: First, two of his disciples, Peter and Judas, who are sitting at the table with him will betray him.

Holy Monday

Good morning, happy Holy Monday and blessings. In today's Gospel in Saint John (12: 1-11) Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples, makes a complaint to Jesus: "Why has this perfume not been sold for three hundred denarii to give to poor people?"  This is definitely a very valid concern, although we do not know exactly how much sincerity there is in Judas's heart when he presents his complaint and in the rest of the disciples with his complicit silence. Now, what happened in this story?

Holy Week

Good morning, happy Friday and blessings. I remind you that ‪this Sunday‬, Palm Sunday, Holy Week begins. We call Holy Week to everything that happens within Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. Although we know that every week is holy, it is the most intense liturgical moment of the whole year. The exercise will be to make Psalm 150 real: May all that breathes praise God!

Jonah

Good morning, happy Thursday and blessings.

Jonah, in the Hebrew Bible is a prophet of the northern kingdom of Israel in about the 8th century BCE. He is the central figure of the Book of Jonah, in which he is called upon by God to travel to Nineveh and warn its residents of impending divine wrath. In Jonah 1:1 “The word of the Lord came to Jonah…” and there are some lessons from Jonah that I want to share with you because I feel that God is also calling you.

Be a disciple

Good morning, happy Wednesday and blessings.

The reflection for today is in the Gospel of Saint John 8: 31-42 where Jesus challenges his followers to become not disciples, but rather true disciples. Now what does it mean to "be truly a disciple of Jesus"?

The word "truly" means "really" - "really my disciples". In other words, there are real and unreal disciples. There are authentic and non-authentic disciples. There is discipleship that is just external, and there is discipleship that goes down to the root.

You will seek me and not find me

Good morning, happy Tuesday and blessings.

What does Jesus mean in John 8:21-30 when he says, “you will seek me and not find me”? We learn, for one thing, that it is possible to seek Christ in vain. Our Lord says to the unbelieving Jews, "You shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins." He meant, by these words, that the Jews would one day seek Him in vain.

Don't judge

Good morning, happy Monday and blessings.

Hopeless

Good morning, happy Saturday and blessings .

I remind you that tomorrow Sunday we will have our Eucharistic masses live-streamed on Facebook at 10:00 am in English & ASL and in Spanish & ASL at 12:00 pm. Connect through: https://m.facebook.com/HolyroodSCruz.

The indifference

Good morning and happy Friday and blessings.

Today I woke up meditating on the sin of indifference. This in the context of the Gospel of the Good Samaritan. The Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 30-38) is the story of a man who was robbed and beaten and left for dead. As he lies clinging to life, several people from prominent ethnic groups and communities who choose not to help him overlook him. Finally, a Samaritan who is not as prominent and has a different religious vision helps him.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
