Today I reflect on the burdens I am carrying. I bring them to Jesus

Reading: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

Good morning, happy Friday.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 11:25-30) we learn that the people who were listening to Jesus’ words seem weary. Jesus’ words sound like a stream of living water. These people are not powerful, they are not educated, however they are able to understand Jesus’ message. I pause and think about the fact that I have been entrusted with this message. I give thanks for that.

Jesus’ invitation is to follow Him but in a way that is freeing and that brings much joy, even when life brings its own burdens. What burdens am I carrying at the moment? Can I hand them over to Jesus in this time of prayer. Jesus thanks God for revealing his mysteries to the little ones and hiding them from the wise and the intelligent. As I join Jesus in thanking the Father for revealing himself to us, I ask for the grace to be among the little ones, able to thank God and to wonder at his greatness, especially the greatness of his love and compassion for us all.

Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. I let this gentle yet powerful invitation touch my heart. As I listen to its echoes, I try to get in touch with my weariness, the heavy burdens I am carrying, and respond with trust that I will find rest.

Today I thank God for all he has revealed to me particularly through scripture, through the Church, and through prayer.

Do you sometimes find yourself weary – from struggles, pains, disappointments? Jesus’ invitation, 'Come to me' is always open, especially when you really need the peace, rest, protection and God's love. Inside you there is a space for the divine. You can ask God to come into your poor heart and to fill it with what only God can give. In that secret place heart can speak to heart. Ask today for what you want and be open to what God sees best to give you.

The yoke of Jesus is light, compared with the quantity of rules that the people of the Old Testament had to follow. But forgiving those who might hate us is desperately difficult. Can I pray for the grace to do that? I respond to the invitation I hear today, bringing to Jesus all my weariness and my burdens. I remain in his presence, as he refreshes me with his gentleness and humility, I let my soul find peace.

Today I reflect on the burdens I am carrying and I bring them to Jesus. What difference does it make when he takes my burdens on his shoulders? Do I find rest? I ask for the grace to be aware that I am never alone in my weariness, for he is there.

Blessings,
