Remember that tomorrow Sunday we have Mass, ASL & English at 10:00am and it will be in person, Zoom, and on Facebook.

And the link for the Bulletin and Bible Readings is: During the sermon I’m going to claim that each week millions of Christians around the world come to church to seek nourishment. We pretty much all do it in different ways, but we are united by the sacraments of baptism and of the eucharist. Today, Jesus tells us quite explicitly that He is the bread of life. But what does that mean to us in our journey towards Him and towards a deeper relationship with Him?
In today’s Gospel we can identify different themes that becomes Crucial Moment. Remember, Crucial Moments is the moment when you must make a critical decision. The Crucial Moment question is: When have you been bread in someone else’s life? To be bread for someone else I need to have a clear understanding of what I want vs. what do I need.
It is important to clarify that what they wanted was correct - to stop the oppression and colonization by the Roman Empire - but they set priorities incorrectly by putting God on the back burner. Those people who dismissed Jesus as a magic charlatan, a riddle-maker whom they could not understand were so focused on what they wanted that they missed that he was in fact what they really needed. They wanted a king, but what they needed was someone who would repair their broken relationship with their God, who would feed them and sustain them and give them eternal life. Not just bread and circuses to distract them, as their Roman overlords did, but real and eternal sustenance. But we also must learn to include the needs of other people in our needs. That is why we are one body, so that we can feel everything that goes on in that body. Otherwise, we will continue to live an individualistic ministry, which has nothing to do with God's saving liberation project.
And remember, the church is not a museum for holy people. The Church is a hospital to heal sinful people like us. Come to heal yourself. Luis+ |
