Today, tune the ear of your heart to the presence of Jesus with you

 
Reading: Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Matthew 24:42.
 
Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings my dear family.
 
“Stay awake!” These are Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel (Matthew 24:42-51). He tells us that we do not know the day or the time when the Lord will come to us.  Thus, each and every moment we must be awake and watchful.  This may sound impossible to do.  However, I think of parents who have young children; I assume their radar is always attuned to where their children are and what they are doing.  It becomes second nature.  I assume that each one us of us also have our radar attuned to the individuals in our lives who are significant to us.
 
Today Jesus desires that we also have our radar scanning for His coming and His presence. The reality is we do not know when, how or through whom Jesus may come to us or be present to us.  However, staying awake and alert every moment is not easy.  Perhaps though, we can enhance our radar system to be more closely attuned to Jesus’ vibes, to His presence with us. If we truly desire to be attentive to Jesus’ presence throughout our day, we can train ourselves to do so just as first-time parents attune themselves to the presence of a new baby. Today, attune the ear of your heart to Jesus’ presence with you!  Jesus will not disappoint you!
 
Throughout the gospels Jesus speaks about being ‘awake’ and paying attention. Am I so preoccupied with the busyness of life and my own particular cares and concerns that I sometimes forget to watch and pray? The idea that God might come at any hour makes some people nervous and afraid. If I let Jesus lead me into a deeper love of God, I realize that I have nothing to fear but am able - at any time - to say to God, ‘Look, here I am.’ We face an ongoing temptation to jog along in the present, as if there were no significant changes to be made in our lifestyles. We can get comfortable about the way things are, or upset and cynical about the poor state of the world, but do we do anything to make it better?
 
Now I wonder, my sisters and brothers: If you knew that today is your last day on earth, would you confess hidden sins that you thought you got away with? If you know that today, is you last day on earth, would you finally follow through in committing your life 100% to God and quit being a part time Christian? If you knew that today is your last day on earth, would you not heal a relationship with someone you are angry with or someone you hurt? If you knew that today is your last day on earth, would you not spend a little more time talking with your children and your grandchildren about Jesus? If you knew that today is your last day on earth, would you not spend a little more time talking with God in prayer?
 
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then start putting them today. Because right now, today, this very moment may be your last moment or your last day.
