The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule is the ethical principle of treating other people as one's self would prefer to be treated. One of Jesus' most famous and impactful teachings, the Golden Rule can be found in the Bible verses Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31. What Jesus is demanding of us is that we be kind people. Kindness is fundamental to the human existence. This is so powerful that someone in some place said in one occasion that kindness is a language that deaf can hear and the blind can see.

Every person has opinions on how to improve the world, though no one wants to practice kindness in their own backyard. There is a quote by Professor David W. Orr that always inspire me: “The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.”

Kindness is not something that demands hard work. It originates from the simple act of doing no harm to others. When was the last time you treated someone with kindness? It is important today that we look a little more like Jesus with our actions. This is our challenge for today as we continue with our Campaign of Prayer and Fasting.

Blessings
