The Red Corner of Fr. Luis

Jesus gave him an anti-capitalist answer.

Reading: Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21.

Good morning, happy Monday, and many bless8ngs my dear family.

We can only receive forgiveness if we are able to give it to others.

Reading: Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”  Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings my dear family.

Jesus says that we should speak honestly and directly with each other, not in anger, but also not hiding the hurt that has been done.

Reading: “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. Matthew 18: 15.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear family.

Jesus tells his disciples: “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it simply will remain a grain

Reading: Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 12:24.

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings my dear family.

Jesus was very clear with his spirituality of the plain: let us return to where the people are to accompany them.

Reading: Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” Mark 9: 5.

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings my dear family.

Today’s Gospel (Mark 9:2-10) is the account of Jesus’ transfiguration. It is quite a remarkable scene. It begins as Jesus takes James, John and Peter up a mountain. Did these men wonder why Jesus was only taking the 3 of them up the mountain? Did they wonder why Jesus chose them?

The Church is a hospital for sick people like you and me. The church is not a museum of holy people

Reading: Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16:16.

Good morning, happy Thursday, and many blessings my dear family.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 16:13-23) we learn that when Peter is moved to identify Jesus with the Messiah – Jesus congratulates him, so to speak, on having allowed himself to be inspired in his answer by the heavenly Father: at last his thinking has been raised onto the properly spiritual plane.

Jesus really does care for us, in spite of indications to the contrary.

Reading: Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment. Matthew 15:28.

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings my dear family.

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 15:21-28) start after Jesus had a confrontation with the Pharisees. He went to the region of Tyre and Sidon and there a woman from Canaanite presented her request. She said, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

God cares for us in difficult situations

Reading: But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Matthew 14:27

Good morning, happy Tuesday, and many blessings my dear family.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 14:22-36) I can identify two types of people. Those who are going through a storm and those who will be going through a storm.

When everyone shared, everyone had enough.

Reading: Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” Matthew 16:16

Good morning, happy Monday, and many blessings my dear family.

In today’s Gospel (Matthew 14:13-21) Jesus received devastating news. He heard that his beloved cousin, John, had been brutally beheaded. In the wake of this news, Jesus needed time to be alone to absorb this news and begin to grieve for his dear friend.

Do we ever shun or judge people who seem to be more than we think they should be?

Reading: And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.” Matthew 13:57.

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings my dear family.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
