Padre Luis

During the sermon I’m going to discuss that for many years now, the churches have been under increasing social pressure to revise or clarify their stance on divorce and remarriage. According to the statisticians, 25% of USA couples who married in 1970 had divorced by 1977, and an estimated 48% will eventually do so. When the proportion of divorcees who remarry is brought into the reckoning (about 80% in the USA), the pastoral pressures on the churches to involve themselves more fully with divorcees and their remarriages is obviously enormous.

Most Protestant denominations, looking back to the Reformers’ rejection of Rome’s claim that sacramental marriage is indissoluble, have always allowed for divorce and remarriage. Some, especially in the United States, are now going further and providing special services for the dissolution of marriage which include ‘vows of release’. In other words, searching and building healthy relationships. Jesus specifically allowed divorce for infidelity: Matthew 19:9. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery. Note that Jesus does not say this is the only reason for divorce. We find other reasons for divorce in Scripture. The Apostle Paul allowed divorce for abandonment: 1 Corinthians 7:14-15: For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. Yet if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. The Law of Moses allowed divorce for abuse: The Law of Moses actually commanded divorce for breaking any of the three marriage vows in Exodus 21:10: food, clothing, and "marital rights," which can be defined as “love,” as we read in the New Testament passages earlier. The main argument is going to be in building healthy relationships, in marriage and in divorce.
Blessings, Fr.Luis

Servant leadership

It has been said that Jesus came proclaiming an upside-down kingdom. It is a popular way of saying that much of what Jesus said and taught changes the way we think. He said things like, if you want to live, you must die; And if you want to save your life, you must lose it. Our natural way of thinking is to hate our enemies and seek opportunities for revenge, but Jesus said: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. As we come to Mark 9, we find Jesus expressing another paradoxical way of thinking. He says that the way to greatness is the way to service. And if we want to be great, we must be the best servers. And, of course, this is not simply something that Jesus says, this is how He lived. The life and death of Jesus are the last demonstrations of the greatness of humility. That is the example of Anahí, Simón, Andrew, and Ronnie, how beautiful to have them in our church.

I do not believe that Sandinismo is Glory or Paradise. But neither do I believe that it is hell as they have wanted us to believe. Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
