Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings.

 

We get so used to hearing Jesus’ parables that we may fail to appreciate how full of wisdom they are, a wisdom that is beautifully expressed in a language anyone can understand.

 

As we read today’s Gospel, (Matthew ‪13:18-23‬), let yourself dwell on Jesus’ wisdom as one of his most attractive characteristics.

Mary Magdalene, the Apostle of the Apostles

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

 

With today’s gospel (John 20:1.11-18) we also celebrate the feast of Mary Magdalene.  The popular belief is that is that she was a sex worker, saint, sinner, witness, wife. In the 2,000 years since Mary Magdalene is said to have watched Jesus Christ die on the cross, she’s been labeled many things. But something we know; she is the Apostle of the apostles.

 

We are part of the extended family of Jesus

Jesus in this reading, Matthew 12:46-50, speaks of two ways he says the people around him belong to his family. Firstly, he belongs to the family he was born into, to that of his mother and relations. His other family is made up of those who do the will of God who from now will be his true intimates. Mary belongs to both, but she is preeminently the one who has said, “let it be done onto me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). For this reason, she is the first disciple of Jesus and the model Christian.

A sign of trust

Jesus in today’s reading -Matthew 12:38-42- invites us to recognize and believe in the love his death and resurrection is a sign of. This is, to use Saint John’s words, Jesus’ love of each of us is to the utmost extent or “to the end” or to death. “Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end” (John 13:1). Believing that Jesus loves us in such a passionate way involves a huge change of mind and heart or of the way we see and feel about Jesus, ourselves, and others.

 

All law must serve the law of love

Good morning, happy Friday, and many blessings my dear Holyrood family.

 

In this Reading, Matthew 12:1-8, we meet Jesus as one who believes that all law must serve the law of love. He calls this his commandment and in it he highlights his love for us as what must shape the way we see ourselves and others, the way we relate with God and with all creation. The law finds its fullness in Jesus, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfil” (Matthew 5:17).

 

Cast all your cares to Jesus.

This gospel on trusting God, Matthew 11:28-30, is the focus to teach that we can’t measure up on our own. However, by trusting in God, we can measure up to all he intends for us. In other words, cast all your cares upon him 

 

God in you, God in me

Good morning, happy Wednesday, and many blessings.

 

Are we reading Matthew 11:25-27 right? Is it actually true that God "gives" these things to some; but intends for others NOT to receive a clear picture of the mysteries of His kingdom, lest they hear and believe and turn to repentance?

 

Do you notice that God - if I may dare to use this word - 'discriminates'? He doesn't treat all people equally. There are some to whom He reveals truth; and there are others to whom He hides it.

Ministry at the time of Coronavirus (Covid 19): Prevent, cure and accompany

Now we have to shape what some have started calling; The Church at Home. Although I keep asking myself; What do those who do not have a home do? For this reason, at the same time, I am declaring today in our Holyrood Church a Lenten day of prayer, fasting and reading the Bible in the Time of the Coronavirus.
