Deaf Ministry

Our monthly ministry meets at Holyrood Church on Tuesday’s evenings. In order to facilitate communication between deaf people and our church, we installed a Video Phone (VP) in our office with extension to Madre Maria Isabel’s cell phone; and another outside the office for public use. For the February 2019 issue of Episcopal Deaf, we submitted an article which was published and distributed at the national level. For the celebration of our 125th Anniversary, 36 to 40 deaf people attended our service. We continue to facilitate communication between our members and community organizations to offer support with immigration issues. We also started a dialogue with our Police Precinct to create awareness on the issue of police behavior and deaf citizens. We continue in conversations with Martha Martínez to start interaction with deaf members, their language and their culture in Sunday School.

Working Team: Mo. María Isabel, Coordinator; María Balbosa, Volunteer, Holyrood/Santa Cruz; Opal Gordon, Deaf Community Activist and Organizer; Melissa Inniss, Lay leader, St Ann’s Church for the Deaf.
